Junior Lifeguard Program
Purpose of the Program
To provide world-class Ocean Safety Education and Training for our community's youth.  The program is designed to educate  9-15 year olds about hazards in the beach and marine environment and training them how to respectfully and safely enjoy the ocean. 		Limited Enrollment
 Due to Safety Concerns: we will only accept 1,250 participants
2012 Swim Test Registration

To participate in the 2012 Swim Tests you MUST Pre-Registered.

Starting Monday February 6th, 2012, preregistration will be available online  at www.newportlifeguard.org/jg   

 Junior Lifeguard families will need to update any information or add any new Junior Lifeguards, and PRINT the Swim Test Form.
This form is your ticket into the swim test. The preregistration process is short and simple (5 minutes)

To create your Swim test form go to www.newportlifeguard.org/jg (after 2/6/12) and follow the directions.

Swim Test

The Junior Lifeguard Swim Test consists of:

Treading water for 3 minutes

  • Swimming 100 yards under the time standard for the participants' age group;

    • Age as of June 30, 2012

9   Year Olds - 1:55     10 - 11 Years - 1:45
12 - 13 Years - 1:40      14 - 15 Years - 1:35

Required Documentation

1.  Returning and first time Junior Lifeguards must pass the Junior Lifeguard Swim Test at one of the scheduled try-outs each year.

2.  A copy of the JG's birth certificate or Passport must be presented prior to taking the swim test each year.

3.  Newport Beach Residents and Non-Residents are welcome to participate. 

4. To register as a NB Resident, the Junior Lifeguard must reside in Newport Beach.
To confirm NB residency: three matching forms of identification and address must be presented at the swim test.  Examples include: CDL, Personal Check, Car Registration, or Utility Bill

P.O. Boxes, Business Addresses, or Business Checks are not acceptable

 

Summer 2012
 Program Days: Monday - Thursday
Morning Session 9 a.m. - 12 noon or  Afternoon Session 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Regionals - July 27 (In Newport)
 Monster Mile - August 2nd
Graduation - August 14

Cancellations

Cancellations before June 1st are subject to a $200 fee
Cancellations on or after June 1st are subject to NO REFUND
