Junior Lifeguard Program

2009 PROGRAM DETAILS

 

Purpose of the Program

The program will acquaint participants with hazards that exist in the marine environment

 as well as provide ocean safety training.

 

How to Register

1. All JG's must pass the swim test at one of the scheduled tryouts

2. A copy of the JG's Birth Certificate or Passport must be presented prior to taking swim test

3. Newport Beach Residents and Non-Residents are welcome to participate

(To register as a NB Resident, 3 forms of matching ID must be presented prior to taking swim test)

 

Limited Enrollment

Due to safety concerns, we will only accept 1,250 participants. 

Swim Test

 The Junior Lifeguard Swim Test consists of swimming 100 yards

under the time standard for your age group and treading water for 3 minutes.

(Age as of June 22nd)

9 year olds - 1:55

10-11 year olds - 1:45

12-13 year olds - 1:40

14-15 year olds - 1:35

 

The Swim tests for the

2009 summer program are complete!

 

If you were unable to attend one of this year's swim tests or did not pass

please enroll in a local swim program and try again next year.  Information for

the following summer program will be available in January 2010.

 Program Location

Junior Lifeguard Classes will be held at JUNIOR  LIFEGUARD HEADQUARTERS   

 Located at “A”  Street on the South Side of the Balboa Pier.

Program Fee

  Newport Beach Residents $645.00 

Non-Residents $750.00

  This fee includes the Junior Lifeguard Uniform,

Special Events, and Junior Membership in the United States LifeSaving Association.

Full payment to the City of Newport Beach is due upon Registration by: credit card, check, or money order.  NO CASH!

Cancellations

Cancellations before June 1st are subject to a $200 fee;

after June 1st are subject to NO REFUND.

PM Class meets 1- 4 Monday - Thursday

June 22nd - First Day of JG's

July 2nd - Holiday

July 9th - Hot Dog Dinner

July 14th - Picture Day

July 24th - Regional Competition, Seal Beach

July 30th - Monster Mile

July 31st - Santa Barbara Fiesta Competition

August 8th - Gray Lunde Iron Man

August 11th - Graduation
